3-year-old boy drowns during family gathering in Pompano Beach

Uncle finds boy floating in pool

POMPANO BEACH, Fla. – Deputies are investigating after a 3-year-old boy drowned Sunday at a home in Pompano Beach.

During a family gathering on Southeast 11th Street, the boy, identified as Henrique Dias Amorim, was found by his uncle floating in the pool.

"He jumped in, pulled him out (and) began to do CPR," Broward Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Keyla Concepcion said. "Immediately, all the family members began to call for help."

The boy was taken to Broward Health Imperial Point, where he was pronounced dead.

Family members said most of them were by the pool throughout the day but that when everyone went inside, the boy somehow slipped out. He was last seen about 5 p.m. and found by his uncle about 30 minutes later.

"We ask the lord to help us because we can't," Paulo Silva, the boy's uncle, told Local 10 News. "Hopefully, people don't have to go through what we're going through."

Silva said family members often referred to the boy as the future soccer player of the family and that he was afraid of the water.
