Officer nearly run over by man fleeing Gaby's in Pembroke Pines

Bar owners find firearm, customer carrying gun

PEMBROKES PINES, Fla. – Police are looking for a man who they say brought a gun to a Pembroke Pines bar and then assaulted a police officer.

Just before 3 a.m. Monday a doorman at Gaby's on Pines Boulevard patted down a customer after suspecting he may have been carrying a gun.

The pat-down revealed the suspected weapon and the doorman requested the help of Pembroke Pines police. When the officers approached the man, he ran through the parking lot.

Officers were able to catch up with the man as he was getting into a black SUV. One officer grabbed his arm. That's when, according to police, he started the vehicle and tried to take off.

The SUV was traveling in the direction of the other responding officer, forcing him to shoot at the approaching vehicle. The gunman continued toward Hiatus Road and has not been seen since.

The man is described as black, 5 feet 9 inches tall with short, black hair. He was last seen wearing black clothing. The vehicle is a black SUV which has damage from a bullet to the front windshield.

This is the second incident at Gaby's Lounge in two weeks. On Jan. 6, police responded to a report of shots fired outside the bar at around 4 a.m.

Anyone with information is asked to call Pembroke Pines police.
