Police investigate second attempted abduction at JCC

9-year-old girl says someone tried to grab her 2 days before incident involving registered sex offender

KENDALL, Fla. – Police are investigating a second attempted abduction at a Jewish Community Center in South Florida.

Dean Beck, 39, was arrested after he tried to kidnap a 6-year-old girl from a summer camp at the Jewish Community Center on Southwest 112th Avenue last Thursday, Miami-Dade police said.

While police were interviewing the girl, a 9-year-old girl said someone tried to grab her two days earlier.

The girl was unable to identify the man, but police told Local 10 News it could have been Beck.

Administrators told Local 10's Roger Lohse that Beck is a longtime member of the JCC, has special needs and was on campus at the time because he was participating in a special needs fitness program.

But Beck is also a registered sex offender. State records show he was convicted of possession of child pornography in Massachusetts in 2002.
