MIAMI BEACH, Fla. – A man died in a Miami Beach hotel Tuesday after an argument with his girlfriend became physical, according to authorities.
The Miami Beach Police Department's first homicide investigation of the year started just three hours into 2013 at the Marseilles Hotel.
Police said the victim was a hotel guest from Chicago. According to police, the man had been fighting with his girlfriend inside the hotel. Investigators said the fight escalated into a physical confrontation.
Authorities said that's when hotel security intervened, detained the tourist and called police.
Before police arrived, the man suddenly died, authorities said.
Investigators said they found no obvious signs of trauma.
The medical examiner Tuesday was trying to determine a cause of death.
Police said the man's girlfriend told police he had a heart condition.
