MIRAMAR, Fla. – Miramar police were conducting a criminal investigation regarding an envelope containing a white powder sent to a home.
The envelope was recently sent to a Miramar home located at 3050 Southwest 163rd Avenue.
Police said the resident, a woman, opened the envelope late Friday afternoon.
A U.S. Postal Service inspector said the letter was intended for the woman's husband. After she opened it and discovered the white powder, she called for help.
Miramar and Sunrise hazardous material teams were dispatched to the home to investigate. Authorities said the powder tested negative for anything hazardous.
The envelope with the powder was bagged up for further tests. The USPS inspector said even if this turns out to be a hoax or prank, the person(s) involved will be charged with a federal offense.
An ambulance arrived at the scene to help treat the woman for anxiety. Local 10's Ben Kennedy reports the couple are in the medical profession.
