Police investigating fires in southwest Miami-Dade

Authorities believe at least 3 fires were started by arsonist Sunday

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – Miami-Dade police are now investigating several fires that sparked Sunday, which are believed to have been the work of an arsonist.

The fires that were sparked in five separate locations are now contained, but firefighters are still working to put out hot spots.

Authorities said at least three of the fires are believed to be arson-related.

At Southwest 142nd Avenue and 232nd Street, firefighters from two units put out several small spot fires in about an acre of a wooded preserve area.

Grass fires were also reported at Southwest 147 Avenue and 194 Street; Southwest 137th Avenue and 280th Street; Southwest 142nd Avenue and 191st Street; and Southwest 134th Avenue and 222nd Street.

The Florida Forest Service said eight acres have burned so far.

No injuries have been reported, and no structures are being threatened by the fires.
