MIAMI - A man stabbed his wife who he was separated from, then shot himself with a shotgun, Miami police said Friday.
The incident happened after 7 a.m. Friday at 4725 Northwest 7th Street.
Police said 42-year-old Ricardo J. Monzon went to 36-year-old Mildred Perestelo's home, where she lives with their three children. The two got into an argument and he stabbed her several times.
Monzon then ran to his car and left the scene, leaving his wife in a large puddle of blood, according to police.
Neighbors called 911 for help. As Miami police and Miami Fire Rescue arrived, calls were simultaneously received of a man who had shot himself just blocks away.
Detectives believe that Monzon fled home in an attempt to kill himself.
Together for 19 years, police said the couple has a history of domestic violence. They have been separated for several months and have three children in common. Police said the children were not present at the time of the incident.
Both were listed in critical condition at Jackson Memorial Hospital.
