Police: North Miami DJ in crash had alcohol in system

Police: Ervens Prudent charged with 2 counts of DUI manslaughter, 2 counts of vehicular homicide

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Police say a North Miami DJ who was involved in a fatal crash last weekend in Coral Gables had alcohol in his system at the time of the crash.

Ervens Prudent, known as DJ A.O.L., has been charged with two counts of DUI manslaughter and two counts of vehicular homicide for driving in a reckless manner, according to police.

According to Coral Gables police, two vehicles were traveling eastbound on Southwest 8th Street on Sunday around 1 a.m. when the first vehicle slowed down or stopped for the traffic light at Douglas Road, and the other hit it from behind.

Maria Martinez, 44, and Marlon Gutierrez, 34, both from Sweetwater, were in the vehicle that was hit and were killed, according to police.

Police said Prudent suffered serious injuries and was transported to Jackson Memorial Hospital.

According to Prudent's mother, he suffered a broken leg and some facial injuries. She said on Sunday her son was leaving from a friend's wedding in Coral Gables.

Bond for Prudent is currently set at $7,500 for his two charges of vehicular homicide, and set at $15,000 for his two charges of DUI manslaughter.

The City of Sweetwater held a donation drive for the families of the victims, who left behind three children each. Both families have expressed that they are in need of money to cover funeral expenses and future expenses.
