Police apprehend suspect after motorcycle chase in southwest Miami-Dade

Suspect taken into custody after fleeing from Homestead police

HOMESTEAD, Fla. – Police have apprehended a man who led them on a pursuit through the streets of southwest Miami-Dade County on a stolen motorcycle.

The motorcyclist parked his motorcycle, tucked his helmet away and jumped several fences before he was taken into custody Tuesday morning near Southwest 10th Street and Southwest 140th Avenue.

Police said the chase began in Homestead, where officers attempted to stop two motorcyclists, one of whom was riding a motorcycle that was reported stolen.

In an attempt to escape, one of the motorcyclists struck a Homestead police officer's cruiser, police said. The officer wasn't hurt.

One of the motorcyclists crashed, but the other one sped away on Florida's Turnpike, police said.

The motorcyclist who crashed was taken to a hospital to be evaluated. Police are investigating whether the motorcycle he was riding was also stolen.

Police haven't released the identities of the men.
