TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – As the search continues in finding the missing Florida State University student, police have released new information about the case Wednesday.
Previous reports of cellphone records showing Ryan Uhre's phone pinging in the Pompano Beach area have turned out to be false, said investigators in Tallahassee.
Authorities said they've been working with Uhre's cellphone provider and they were able to determine that it was a false lead and the phone did not ping in South Florida.
Police also believe Uhre was not spotted at Rosie's, a restaurant in Wilton Manors, but rather someone who may have looked like him.
Officials, however, caution that does not mean Uhre is not in the area.
Uhre's father, Mike, said he was not discouraged by the news.
"He's out there somewhere, and if he decided to take a trip, decided to take a vacation -- maybe. But someone's seen this guy. Someone's seen my son," Uhre said.
Friends of Uhre reported him missing on Feb. 7, nearly a week after he was seen on Feb. 2 leaving Andrews Capital Grill and Bar on Adams Street in Tallahassee.
The 23-year-old, who reportedly graduated from St. Thomas Aquinas High in Fort Lauderdale, was last seen alone, walking on the south side of the building.
Police said at this time there is no indication that there was foul play involved, but from what they know, officials believe Uhre left the bar on his own.
"He's my son, he's my boy. And, you know -- you just don't not call or text someone back in ten days," Uhre said.
