Suspect in Hialeah stabbing found hiding in boat's engine compartment

Ernesto Herrada-Cordova caught in Fla. Keys; Deputies say he tried to flee to Cuba by boat

HIALEAH, Fla. ā€“ Police said a man accused of stabbing two women in Hialeah was apprehended in the Florida Keys.

Hialeah police said Ernesto Herrada-Cordova, 25, stabbed the women Wednesday morning at an apartment complex at Palm Avenue and 32nd Street.

Herrada-Cordova was found by Monroe County Sheriff's Office deputies Thursday afternoon while hiding in the engine compartment of a boat anchored off Geiger Key.

Monroe County sheriff's spokeswoman Becky Herrin said deputies received information that Herrada-Cordova might have been trying to boat to Cuba. When deputies arrived at the boat ramp, they found the suspect hiding in the engine compartment.

The victims drove themselves to Hialeah Hospital. One woman, who suffered more severe injuries, was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital's Ryder Trauma Center.

A tenant at the apartment complex told Local 10 News that Herrada-Cordova is the ex-husband of one of the victims.

The victims' conditions have not been released.
