Pompano Beach mosque evacuated due to threat

Scene was eventually cleared, nothing dangerous found

POMPANO BEACH, Fla. – The Islamic Center of South Florida was evacuated Thursday afternoon due to a threat, the Broward Sheriff’s Office reported.

Someone called the mosque, located at 507 N.E. Sixth St., at about 4 p.m. threatening to blow it up, a member of the Council of American Islamic Relations said.

There were about 10 to 20 people inside the mosque at the time  the threat was made, Mihad Sakallah, the director of the mosque, said.

"He said your mosque is going to be blown," Sakallah said. "We're going to kill you and ISIS in America."

The mosque was preparing to have people come to break their fast for the holy month of Ramadan when the threat was made.

The scene was eventually cleared and nothing dangerous was found.
