Puppy thrown from car outside North Miami Beach police station

Officer takes 'playful' puppy home to his 2 children

NORTH MIAMI BEACH, Fla. – North Miami Beach police are investigating after a puppy was thrown from a moving car.

The dog, which appears to be a pit bull-mix, was tossed out of the car near the North Miami Beach Police Department along Northeast 19th Avenue and Northeast 169th Street about 7:15 p.m. Monday, according to a tweet by the department.

Police said a woman witnessed the incident and brought the puppy inside the station.

The puppy did not appear to be injured and she was taken home by an officer.

"She's very playful, very nice, and she didn't bark at all last night," Officer Luis Soto said. "I thought she would possibly wake me up this a.m. My children played with her this morning."

Soto said his two children, ages 4 and 6, have been tasked with coming up with a name for their new family addition.

Anyone with information on who left the dog behind should contact the North Miami Beach Police Department or Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS.
