Report: Shellie Zimmerman files for divorce from George Zimmerman

George Zimmerman acquitted in death of Trayvon Martin

SANFORD, Fla. – Shellie Zimmerman has reportedly filed for divorce from George Zimmerman, the neighborhood watchman who was acquitted of second-degree murder in the death of Trayvon Martin.

Thursday's report of the divorce from ABC News comes a week after Shellie Zimmerman said in an interview she "would have to think about" if she stayed married to George Zimmerman and nearly two months after his acquittal.

George Zimmerman's brother, Robert, told Local 6 he will be commenting on the report on Twitter. Local 6 has also reached out to Zimmerman's attorney, Mark O'Mara, but has not yet heard back.

Shellie Zimmerman pleaded guilty last week to a misdemeanor perjury charge for lying during a bail hearing following her husband's arrest for the fatal shooting of 17-year-old Martin in February 2012.

George Zimmerman made headlines again Wednesday after Lake Mary police said they issued him a $256 speeding ticket the day before.

A jury found George Zimmerman not guilty of second-degree murder in July 2013.

No other information was immediately available.
