Coral Gables restaurant ordered shut for rodent, roach issues

39 violations found at La Palma on Alhambra Circle

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – State inspectors found 39 violations during a routine, unannounced state inspection at La Palma in Coral Gables.

The doors were ordered shut after rodent and roaches issues were found.

The Ham & Eggery in North Miami Beach was also ordered shut last week.

It is the third time the Ham & Eggery has been ordered shut since 2014.

Local 10 News discovered live peacocks in the Ham & Eggery's kitchen years ago when we were there to shoot a dirty dining segment.

Below is a list of places and some of their violations.

All the places mentioned were allowed to re-open following an ordered clean up and re-inspection.

"Rodent activity present as evidenced by rodent droppings found. Observed approximately 15 dry droppings at dry storage room shelves."

"Roach activity present as evidenced by live roaches found. Observed total of 8 live roaches. Observed one live roach under hand sink at front counter beverage station. Observed 5 live roaches under Dish Machine area. Observed two live roaches on kitchen wall by food preparation station where spices are located.

"Live, small flying insects in kitchen, food preparation area, or food storage area. Dry storage room, by soda boxes, and around main kitchen preparation station where produce such as onions and potatoes are located."

"Employee began working with food, handling clean equipment or utensils, or touching unwrapped single-service items without first washing hands."

"Potentially hazardous (time/temperature control for safety) hot held at less than 135 degrees Fahrenheit or above. chicken stock (83°F - Hot Holding); tomato sauce (87°F - Hot Holding); cream (87°F - Hot Holding) at hot cook line station."

"Accumulation of black/green mold-like substance in the interior of the ice machine."
