Deputies say Richard Mathews claimed his mother asked him to kill her.

PALM COAST, Fla. - A Florida man faces a manslaughter charge in the death of his mother, whom he claims asked him to kill her, deputies said.

Richard Mathews, 62, was arrested Wednesday.

His mother, Mary Mathews, was found dead inside her home Feb. 21.

Flagler County sheriff's deputies said her body was on a living room chair with no apparent signs of trauma.

An employee of a funeral home called deputies a few days later and told them a "highly intoxicated" Mathews broke down while discussing funeral arrangements and told them his mother asked him to kill her.

The medical examiner performed an autopsy and ruled she died by strangulation.

Toxicology reports showed high levels of medications in her body.
