Roads to close for Mercedes-Benz Corporate Run in downtown Miami

Closures begin at 2 p.m. and extend in some parts until midnight

MIAMI ā€“ Roads in downtown Miami will be closed Thursday afternoon and evening, as more than 25,000 runners participate in the Mercedes-Benz Corporate Run.

Participants are encouraged to use public transportation. Road closures in the area:Ā

2 p.m.: Northbound lanes of Biscayne Boulevard, from Chopin Plaza to NE 5th Street will close. Southbound lanes will offer two-way traffic.

4 p.m.: Traffic expected to increase as participants arrive.

6 p.m.: Traffic in northbound lanes of Brickell Avenue will be detoured west to SE 7th Street. Only vehicles going to Hotel Intercontinental and One Miami will be allowed to cross the Brickell Bridge.

6:30 p.m.: Traffic will be shut down along the race course. No vehicles will be allowed in or out of the following area:

  • Biscyane Boulevard and Brickell Avenue to the east
  • South 13th Street to the south
  • West Second Avenue to the west
  • North Fifth Street to the north

7:30-8:45 p.m.: Roadways will reopen as the Miami Police Department deems them safe, starting with Brickell Avenue. The northbound lanes of Biscayne Boulevard are not expected to reopen to traffic until midnight.Ā

Race organizers are expecting the 2014 event to be have a record-breaking crowd, with an estimated 25,600 participants from 850 companies.Ā The 5k is the final race in the Corporate Run series, known as "Florida's Largest Office Party."Ā 

The Miami race follows similar events held earlier in April in Fort Lauderdale and West Palm Beach.Ā 

Awards will be given to overall men's, women's and co-ed teams in 20 different industries.Ā
