Robber takes cash, phone from woman at Miami gas station, police say

Police: Woman recovers purse, begged for her items back

MIAMI ā€“ Miami police are investigating after a woman was robbed at a gas station this month.

Officers were dispatched to the Shell gas station in the 5400 block of Biscayne Boulevard at 7:16 a.m. March 17.

Police said an investigation revealed that the woman had met an unknown male during the early hours that Friday morning.

The woman told detectives that after a conversation with the offender they agreed to ride in a cab together and drive to another location, police said.

When the vehicle came to a complete stop, the alleged robber got out of it and began pulling on the woman's purse. Police said she resisted and struggled with him for her purse from inside the vehicle.

The robber eventually overpowered the woman and pulled on her purse with such force that caused both the woman and purse to be dragged out of the vehicle and onto the ground, police said. The woman still had control of the purse, which caused the robber to pull and drag the purse around, forcing her to let go.

Police said the robber took $200 from the woman and her black Galaxy mobile phone.

The woman recovered the purse and begged for her items back. Police said the robber ignored her and walked away from the scene.

The robber is described by police as a black male who is 5 feet 8 inches to 6 feet 1 inch tall with long black dreadlocks. Police said he was last seen wearing a red long-sleeved sweater with a white undershirt, black pants and white sneakers.

Anyone with information is asked to call police. Tipsters who wish to remain anonymous can call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers by calling 305-471-TIPS (8477).
