"I didn't realize what was going on at first, couple of seconds, and then I realized someone was trying to steal my chain," said Sandy, the near victim. "He put his hand between the door so I couldn't get to him but he could grab my chain."

"He pulled hard and I'm surprised that chain didn't break at all," said Helen Toxqui, a Walgreens employee who was working that day.

"He did have a handful of my chain and he was yanking on it pretty hard," added Sandy.

A witness then intervenes, and the robber runs away. Several people, including Sandy, chase after him.

"Then he pulled his shirt up as he was running back and I thought I saw a gun and he said, 'Don't follow me,'" said Sandy.

A coin on Sandy's 30-year-old chain fell off but he found it.

"He got away with nothing," he said. "I consider myself pretty lucky that I have my chain and my coin and I didn't get hurt."

Anyone with information on the attempted robbery is asked to call BSO at 954-321-4209 or Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS.
