Monroe County sheriff's deputies said the stolen items were found Monday at Chavez's home on Maloney Avenue.

The rods and reels were found in the hallway and backyard of the home, deputies said.

Authorities said the items were stolen from vessels at Oceanside Marina on Stock Island. They said several of the rods were easily identifiable because they had been marked with the name of the person they were stolen from.

Deputies said Chavez claimed the items were his and said he had bought some new and some from "people on the street" for between $10 and $30.
