Scam artist steals $60K from Dania Beach bank

Suspect used identity of elderly woman to steal money

DANIA BEACH, Fla. – What police are calling a "well-heeled" scam artist was able to swindle $60,000 from a Dania Beach bank.

Police say the well-dressed woman walked into a Wells Fargo branch at 700 E. Dania Beach Blvd. on April 17 and requested the money from her account.

Bank employees handed over the money after the suspect used the identity of an actual bank customer.

The woman in the surveillance pictures doctored the drivers license of a 69-year-old Lake Worth woman and was able to correctly answer security questions posed by bank staff.

The victim noticed the withdrawal on her bank statement the next day and reported it to the Broward Sheriff's Office.

BSO believes the suspect has ties to Georgia as a debit card that was ordered on the victim's account had been mailed to an address in Stone Mountain.

Anyone with information about the crime is asked to call Det. Robert Feick at (954) 321-4255 or report anonymous tips to Crime Stoppers of Broward County at (954) 493-TIPS (8477)
