FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The director of the Broward County Public Schools Transportation Department, who drew the ire of parents and bus drivers as problems plagued the department earlier in the year, is resigning.
Chester Tindall's resignation is effective March 1st. Until then, he will continue to collect his $125,000 salary.
"I think he did the right thing for the people of Broward County and for the families of Broward County and the kids of Broward County. He did the right thing," said Jim Silvernale, a union representative.
"He's actually leaving is perfect, and hopefully by him leaving, our morale in transportation will come back to the level it was at," said bus driver Deborah Robbins.
Runcie offered no comment on the resignation Tuesday.
"Can you address the resignation of Chester Tindall?" asked Local 10's Bob Norman.
"I'll address that at another time," answered Runcie.
Tindall announced in September he was taking an extended medical leave. Earlier this month, Schools Superintendent Robert Runcie defended the changes made by Tindall.
