Science teacher wins top honors in Miami-Dade

Marshall Ruffo teaches at Centennial Middle School

MIAMI – Science teacher Marshall Ruffo received Miami-Dade County's top honors by being named its 2014 Teacher of the Year.

Ruffo, who teaches at Centennial Middle School, was named the winner of the Francisco R. Walker award at a ceremony in Miami.

The founder of the Centennial Ocean Academy of Science and Technology (C.O.A.S.T.), Ruffo uses marine plants, wildlife, maps, charts and flags to assist in teaching his students.

Bradley Sultz, a teacher from iPrep Academy, was the Teacher of the Year runner-up.
