Sea Tow finds possible migrant boat off Hillsboro Beach

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Sea Tow spotted an empty migrant boat Monday morning off the coast of Fort Lauderdale.

Sea Tow says the small boat, which had a fallen sail and chairs inside it, was found about 4 nautical miles offshore.

The boat was initially spotted by Sea Tow off Government Cut on Sunday and then was spotted off Hillsboro Beach on Monday.

Authorities did not immediately say whether the migrants had been intercepted in the water or from where the migrants came.

According to the U.S. Coast Guard, 212 Cuban migrants have traveled to South Florida on makeshift boats this month. Authorities believe favorable weather has been one of the factors for the rise in Cubans coming to South Florida via the sea.
