Second suspect arrested in robbery of mother, son

Anthony Mitchell arrested at Fort Lauderdale home; brother already in jail

MIAMI – A second suspect in the alleged kidnapping and robbery of a mother and her son is now behind bars.

Anthony Mitchell was arrested by U.S. marshals, Miami police and Broward Sheriff's Office deputies Wednesday morning at his Fort Lauderdale home.

Mitchell will now join his younger brother, Larry Mitchell, who is already in the Miami-Dade County jail, charged in the same incident.

As Local 10 News first reported, Larry Mitchell was arrested in November.

Police said Anthony Mitchell was identified as the second suspect only last week.

A woman told police that the brothers approached her in a parking lot and offered to fix a dent on her car for $100. She agreed.

But after pulling out the dent and smearing some compound in the car, the men demanded $700, the woman said.

The woman claims that they forced her and her son to drive to an ATM to withdraw money.

She told police that one of the Mitchell brothers told her, "If you don't give us more cash, we will hurt your son."

Larry Mitchell is being held without bond.

His brother will likely follow the same path after Miami-Dade County Judge Marisa Tinkler-Mendez denied him bond.
