Sheriff Scott Israel's driver under investigation

Deputy Troy Wilkins taken off road

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The Broward County sheriff's personal driver has been taken off the road.

Deputy Troy Wilkins, a fixture at the side of Sheriff Scott Israel since his election nearly two years ago, is the subject of an internal investigation that has landed him on desk duty, according to the Broward Sheriff's Office.

The BSO is understandably mum on the nature of the active investigation, but sources said that while Wilkins -- who was something of a personal valet for Israel, even carrying his coat -- was protecting the sheriff by day, he was protecting an unnamed dance establishment at night without authorization.

Local 10 News will have more on this story as the investigation progresses.
