Police say wife was killed by husband at their store

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – A woman was killed and a suspect was taken to a hospital after a shooting at a 7-Eleven in Northwest Miami-Dade County.

The shooting was reported about 11 a.m. at 533 NW 103rd St.

Police did not immediately release the names of the people involved, but said the 52-year-old victim was shot to death by her 51-year-old husband following a verbal argument. Police said the couple owned the 7-Eleven convenience store where the shooting occurred.

A witness told Local 10 News that he was standing outside when he saw the husband shoot his wife while she was sitting in her car.

"I hear shots ringing out, and I look to the right and I see the guy standing outside of his car shooting at his wife which is the victim," John Brion said. " I run close to the car and he's going around the other side -- I guess he's smashing the window to throw in the gun or something with a hammer. As I'm going toward the car, I run back and I tell the lady in here to call the cops because the lady got shot -- she's dead."

Sky 10 was above the scene as numerous Miami-Dade police cars and a fire rescue truck were seen in the area.

The area was roped off as detectives continued their investigation. A black Mercedes in the parking lot had a tarp covering the windshield and driver's-side window.

Authorities said the husband was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital because he was complaining about chest pains. The husband is now in police custody and is being questioned by homicide detectives.

Police said a firearm was recovered at the scene.
