Shooting victim in Pembroke Pines road-rage incident arrested

Police say Reynaldo Lopez got out of van, punched 71-year-old driver

PEMBROKE PINES, Fla. – A man who was shot in a road-rage incident in Pembroke Pines is facing felony charges of battery and burglary, police said.

Reynaldo Lopez, 52, of Coral Springs, was arrested Tuesday in connection with Monday afternoon's confrontation on Pines Boulevard.

Pembroke Pines police said Lopez was driving a Dry Clean Xpress van when he intentionally slammed on the brakes, forcing the driver of the silver SUV behind Lopez to stop suddenly.

According to the police report, Lopez stopped in traffic, got out of his van and approached the SUV, leading to a verbal exchange between Lopez and Kenneth Parris, 71, of Davie.

Lopez told Parris, "Do you think you a tough guy?" After Parris replied, Lopez punched Parris in the face while he was inside his SUV, the report said.

In fear for his safety, Parris shot Lopez in the arm, the report said.

Police said Parris has a concealed firearms permit.

Lopez was taken to Memorial Regional Hospital, where he remained Tuesday.

Police said Lopez denied punching Parris.

A witness provided a sworn statement corroborating what led to the shooting, the report said.
