Shotgun-wielding duo sought in Miramar robberies

Surveillance video released from Sunday morning gas station robbery

MIRAMAR, Fla. – Police are searching for two men who used a shotgun in a trio of robberies in Miramar.

Two of the robberies occurred early Saturday morning and a third occurred early Sunday morning.

Miramar police said two men -- one of them armed with a shotgun -- robbed a Checkers fast-food restaurant and Hess gas station, both on Miramar Parkway, within a span of less than two hours.

In the first robbery, one of the men pointed a shotgun at an employee through the take-out window. In the next robbery, the same man pointed a shotgun at the cashier.

The next morning, both men robbed the Seven Day Food Market on Pembroke Road, demanding cash and Newport cigarettes. The robbery, captured on surveillance video, was released Monday.

Surveillance video shows two customers approach the checkout counter during the robbery. They appear to be laughing, and police said the customers thought the robbery was a joke.

Mohammed Khelafa was working behind the counter at the time of the robbery. Khelafa told Local 10 News one of the gunmen turned around as he was leaving and wished him a happy new year.

Police said the duo also robbed a Wing Stop in Miami Gardens later that day.

Anyone who recognizes the men is asked to call Broward County Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS.
