Man, 19, sought after shots fired outside Carol City Senior High School

Miami-Dade Schools police seek Stanley Ragin

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. ā€“ The Miami-Dade Schools Police Department is asking for the public's help in finding a man involved in a shooting Wednesday outside Miami Carol City Senior High School.

Stanley Ragin, 19, was seen running away from the scene with a gun, police said.

Miami-Dade County Public Schools spokeswoman Daisy Gonzalez said a window was shattered in the incident.

Sky 10 was above the scene at 3 p.m. as several police cars were outside the school at 3301 Miami Gardens Drive. Paramedics were also seen entering the building with a gurney, but then brought it back out without anyone on it.

Gonzalez said no students were injured in the shooting, although Miami-Dade Schools Police Lt. Raul Correra said a boy somehow injured himself after hearing the shots and running off.

The student was treated for his injuries at the school.

"Gun violence continues to be an unacceptable threat to our children," Superintendent Alberto Carvalho tweeted. "Shots fired near Carol City Sr. after dismissal. No injuries reported."

According to Carvalho, surveillance video showed a man who was walking on the sidewalk getting into a shootout with other men in a car on 183rd Street.

He said none of the people involved are students.

"Well, I think we avoided tragedy in a very dramatic way. Around 2:59 p.m., a car traveling east, right in front of Carol City Senior High School, shot into the school," Carvalho told reporters outside the school. "It appears not at the school, but it appears they were shooting at an individual who was walking in front of the school, as I said, 29 minutes after dismissal. There are two bullets on the fence. Two bullets actually struck glass, hurricane-proof glass, shattered the glass, but did not penetrate the office."

"I said that we avoided a tragedy because inside that office there were professionals, there were educators," Carvalho said.

Police saidĀ Ragin has a violent history and should be considered armed and dangerous. Police said he is a known gang member and has active warrants for his arrest.

The school was placed on lockdown after the shooting. Fifty students were at the school at the time for extracurricular activities, Carvalho said.

"I saw like a bunch of kids running," one student told Local 10. "I was standing right there and I heard gunshots. Boom, boom, boom, boom. And a bunch of kids just started running."

Anyone with information is asked to call the Miami-Dade Schools Police Department, Detective S. Hadley at 305-995-COPS or Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS.
