NORTH BAY VILLAGE, Fla. -

Months after its deck collapsed into Biscayne Bay, Shuckers Bar and Grill in North Bay Village is renovating.

The deck remains submerged. The incident injured two dozen people who were watching a Miami Heat playoff game.

No one at the restaurant commented Wednesday. Public records show several people have filed lawsuits against Shuckers related to the collapse.

"They have probably been told not to talk to anybody," said Village Manager Frank Rollason.

Rollason called the restaurant's plans to reopen exciting.

"When you talk about North Bay Village, it's Shuckers, so we want it open," he said.

Rollason said the owner of Shuckers has pulled permits and worked with village officials to bring back its signature deck.

"All new pilings, all new concrete structural," he added. "It'll probably be the safest deck anywhere around. It is not just adequately engineered, but it is engineered to the point where there should be no problems."

It's unclear when the restaurant may reopen.
