PEMBROKE PARK, Fla. – Feeding South Florida needs more donations, food drives, and volunteers than ever before.
"Prior to the (government) shutdown, we needed to service 155 million meals throughout the four county area of Palm Beach, Broward, Miami-Dade and Monroe, and on top of this, with benefits being cut, we're estimating that those numbers are obviously going to increase," said Sari Watske with Feeding South Florida.

The United States Department of Agriculture supplies the perishable protein products to a federal food distribution program, which then distributes the food to individual states.
But if the government doesn't start up again, the current batch at Feeding South Florida may be their last.
"We never have actually [had enough food] and that's actually a really good -- especially when government breaks down, the need for the community and sort of the for-profit sector and everyone to come together obviously increases," said Watske.
