Driver taken into custody after chase, woman questioned after bailing out of car

POMPANO BEACH, Fla. – Two people were taken into custody after a police chase that ended in Pompano Beach.

Broward Sheriff's Office deputies were following a stolen white Scion TC on northbound Interstate 95 at Sunrise Boulevard in Fort Lauderdale shortly before 4 p.m.

The driver got off the Atlantic Boulevard exit and was speeding through nearby neighborhoods, heading south on Powerline Road in Pompano Beach.

A deputy eventually pulled the car over and ordered the driver out of the vehicle at gunpoint.

Five deputies were immediately at the scene. One pulled the driver out through the passenger side door, placed him on the ground with the help of other deputies and handcuffed him.

Within seconds, the area of Northwest Sixth Street near Powerline Road was swarmed with authorities from multiple agencies.

Police said a woman who bailed out of the car early in the chase was also taken into custody and later released.

Fort Pierce police said the Scion was wanted as evidence in a murder investigation, but that murder suspect is already is custody.

The names of the man and woman in the car haven't been released.
