"He's family. Postal family," Anna Forbes Hartfield, a postal worker, told Local 10's Janine Stanwood.

Richard Cassanello, another postal worker, said he didn't know Parton. But like Hartfield, he showed up for support.

"I'm a carrier. He's a carrier. He kind of died in the line of duty," Cassanello said.

Parton, a 60-year-old veteran letter carrier, had planned on retiring and traveling, friends and family said.

His life was violently cut short on Monday along his regular route near NW 165th St. in Northwest Miami-Dade.

Investigators said shortly after 3 p.m., someone opened fire on him, stealing his mail truck and then dumping it a few blocks away.

Despite a massive manhunt, police said the killer got away. Parton suffered two gunshot wounds, according to a police report.

By all accounts from his former wife, friends and co-workers, Parton was well-liked and generous.

"Whoever knows anything should come forward," Cassanello said.

"I hope they get them. It's really sad that somebody can't even go to work, do their job, go home to their family. To get killed on the job, that's bad. That's awful," Hartfield said.

Investigators are asking anyone with information about the shooting to call 888-876-5322. The U.S. Postal Inspection Service is offering $50,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or people responsible for Bruce Parton's death.
