Fog forces flights to be diverted away from Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport

7 flights diverted to Orlando

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – A spokesman for Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport says seven incoming flights were diverted to Orlando because of Wednesday morning's fog.

He says other flights in various cities bound for Fort Lauderdale were not allowed to take off at all because of the weather.

Flights leaving the airport were being allowed to take off.

A spokesman for Miami International Airport says some flights there were also impacted. However, he did not have a number on how many flights.

Frustrated travelers were left staring at flight update boards in hopes of finding out when they'll be on their way.

"I live in Denver so they don't have crazy fog like this, so this is something new for me," said Mateen Syed. "I just want to get home. I want to go to work. It's been a while."

All of the diverted flights were expected arrive in Fort Lauderdale as soon as the fog lifts.
