MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – Bare-knuckled fighting? moved from the back yard to the big screen with the documentary film by Billy Corben and Rakontur Films called "Dawg Fight."
The movie's protagonist, promoter and fighter Dhafir Harris, said he's now working on two reality shows and getting his fights on pay-per-view.
Recently, however, Harris got a blow worse than one in the ring.
Harris' son was shot early Tuesday morning in southwest Miami-Dade County.
Laquavius Hudson suffered two bullet wounds in his arm, inches from his heart.
Miami-Dade police said the shooting happened near U.S. Highway 1 and Southwest 263rd Street. Hudson said the gunman didn't try to rob him. He believes the shooter was trying to kill him.
"How I knew he was trying to kill me, though, is because he was barefaced," Hudson said.
Hudson, who was a boy when "Dawg Fight" was filmed, is now 18. He has no criminal record in Miami-Dade County and wonders if jealousy could be a motive.
Harris, who is better known as "Dada 5000," told Local 10 News on the phone that his heart breaks for his son. Harris is hopeful for an arrest.
"You just cut me off at nighttime and shot me for no reason," Hudson said of his shooter. "Now you're liable to spend the rest of your life in jail."
