Sources: Suspect in chef's death to take plea deal

Karlie Tomica expected to plead guilty Wednesday

MIAMI – The 20-year-old woman accused in the hit-and-run crash that killed a South Beach chef is expected to take a plea deal that will see her serve four years in prison as a youthful offender, sources told Local 10.

On Wednesday, Karlie Tomica is expected to plead guilty to DUI manslaughter and leaving the scene of a crash resulting in death. A Miami-Dade Circuit judge must accept the plea deal.

Sources said the plea deal will see Tomica, 20, serve four years in prison, followed by two years of house arrest and fifteen years of probation. The deal must be approved by Wednesday because on Aug. 11, Tomica turns 21 and wouldn't be able to be sentenced as a youthful offender.

The family of Stefano Riccioletti has approved the terms of the deal, sources said. After accepting the plea deal, Tomica is expected to serve as a witness in a civil suit filed against Nikki Beach Club, where she worked as a part-time bartender.

Police said Tomica hit Riccioletti, the executive chef at Terrazza at the Shore Club, after leaving work. According to court documents, she had a blood alcohol content between 0.208 and 0.225 when her blood was drawn two hours after the crash.

Police credited Jairo Fuentes, a Good Samaritan who called 911 and followed the car that hit Riccioletti, with helping them make an arrest.
