South Fla. organizations help feed homeless, needy on Thanksgiving

3,000 meals to be served to those in need in Miami Dade, Broward counties

MIAMI ā€“ The Miami Rescue Mission and Broward Outreach Centers will be serving about 3,000 traditional Thanksgiving meals for the homeless and needy.

On Thursday. they're cooking up 200 turkeys and serving some famous side dishes, like mashed potatoes, string beans, and pies.

There was also a block party with live music and volunteers gave free haircuts for the men and free facials for the women.

More than 5,000 clothing items were also handed out to those in need and a medical team from the Miami-Dade Medical Campus was in attendance to give families free wellness checkups.

More than 600 volunteers helped out at all three locations.
