South Florida woman creates natural skin-care line

Jacq's Organics offers skin care for whole family

MIAMI – The second a woman finds out she is pregnant, she becomes obsessed with keeping her baby safe.

Barbara Jacques made it her mission to make sure her baby only got the best -- even if it meant spending hours in her own kitchen coming up with a safe concoction for skin care.

Jacques founded Jacq's Organics, which sells Lavender Love, Carrot con Leche, and Pink Chocolate skin-care products.

"I don't have time to have all these products on the counter, so I need something that is nurturing, safe, multifunctional for my baby, my husband, and my skin," Jacques told Local 10's Jen Herrera.

When Jacques found out she was pregnant two years ago, she started reading and researching baby soaps and lotions. What she found shocked her.

"A lot of the ingredients, like the parabens and the sulfates, were all in baby skin care and I said, 'No, I'm not going to use it,'" she said.

So Jacques started mixing an alternative right in her own kitchen, and over time, a skin-care line safe for the whole family was born.

"A diva can use, a tough guy can use, a little baby can use and it's safe, and you don't have to think twice about putting it on your skin," said Jacques.

When she first started, Jacques actually cut the bars of soap one by one -- by hand.

"I remember growing up, my mom would give me carrots for my skin because it leaves your skin glowing," she added.

Jacques hopes others appreciate those Caribbean childhood remedies she remembers.
