Stefanie Stern faces child neglect charge after boyfriend shoots self in foot

Mother accused of leaving 3-year-old alone in store after shooting

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – A South Florida mother faces criminal charges after she left her 3-year-old daughter alone at a Deerfield Beach liquor store after her boyfriend accidentally shot himself in the leg, according to the Broward Sheriff's Office.

Stefanie Stern, 28, faces charges of child neglect and tampering with evidence.

Stern is accused of leaving the girl behind to help get rid of the gun after the shooting.

According to the arrest affidavit, Reginald Lee could be seen on the store's surveillance video arguing with another man. That man ran out of the store and Lee followed, holding the door open with one hand while his other hand was in his waist band.

After Lee accidentally shot himself, he is seen pacing back and forth before handing the gun to Stern, who ran into an alley with Lee, leaving Stern's daughter alone inside the store, the report said.

The girl has been removed from the home. The Department of Children and Families is investigating.

Stern's bond was set at $2,000.
