MIAMI – Smoke was spewing from a Boeing 727 after it caught fire during an emergency landing Thursday at Miami International Airport.
There were 120 passengers and seven crew members trapped, injured or running to safety.
But the victims were actually students earning credit for school.
Required by the Federal Aviation Administration, this mock drill prepares emergency responders for a real-life disaster on the runway.
"It's an opportunity for our first responders, not only on the airport but off the airport itself, to come together to exercise their skills in what should be a catastrophic event," Miami-Dade Aviation Department Director Emilio Gonzalez told Local 10.
