MIRAMAR, Fla. – Students hoping to help about 100 teens aging out of foster care were asking for help Thursday.
Everglades High School students in Miramar were putting together "housewarming" containers meant to help teens who are having to move out on their own.
Veda Coleman-Wright was part of the effort to get donations for furniture before the project to prepare the containers began.
"The students have been collecting donations and creating artwork to give to the kids for their first homes," she said.
Some of the items they collected included cleaning supplies, such as laundry detergent and sponges, eating utensils, personal products such as towels and soap. Each container has an estimated value of $50.
The students delivered the containers to The Flite Center, a nonprofit community agency at 351 North Sate Road 7, in Plantation. For more information, call 954-530-4686.
