Sharice Smith tried stealing $81 worth of merchandise, say police

SUNRISE, Fla. - A woman was accused of pepper spraying a security guard after trying to steal clothing from the Marshalls at the Sawgrass Mills Mall, said Sunrise police.

Sharice Smith was arrested Tuesday. She was charged with 1 count of robbery with a weapon and 1 county of petit theft.

On Tuesday, Smith was observed on surveillance cameras taking merchandise off a sales rack and putting it into her purse in the women's department, according to an arrest report.

As Smith tried leaving the store, she was stopped by a security guard. While retrieving the merchandise, Smith pepper sprayed the security guard and ran, said police. She was later caught by Sunrise police.

The total value of the stolen merchandise was $81.93.
