Surveillance video released in Miami hit-and-run

Jonathan Borrero, 21, put in medically-induced coma after crash

MIAMI – Newly released surveillance video shows the moment a motorcyclist was struck by a hit-and-run driver in Little Havana, Miami police said.

In an edited version released Wednesday by police, two people are seen getting out of their cars on Beacom Boulevard and Southwest Seventh Street in an attempt to help the victim, Jonathan Borrero.

Loved ones said Borrero, 21, was put into a medically-induced coma at Jackson Memorial Hospital after being rear-ended by a car Sunday night.

His girlfriend, Dayna Richardson, 18, told Local 10 News that he was headed back to her house after picking up food from Taco Bell at 1:40 a.m.

Miami police have confirmed the arrest of Luis F. Sanchez, 50. He faces charges of leaving the scene of a crash with serious bodily injuries and resisting arrest without violence.

Witnesses told Local 10 News that Sanchez was drunk when he slammed his van into Borrero's 2015 Yamaha 300.

Another witness said that Sanchez tried to flee the scene, but a good Samaritan saw what happened and helped police track him down.

"They were able to follow this driver right to where he parked his car," Officer Rene Pimentel said.

Sanchez has since bonded out of jail, but Richardson said he should not have been released.

"He needs to be kept in jail for awhile, so he can just think about what he did," she said.

A GoFundMe page has been established to help pay for Borrero's medical expenses.
