Suspect Killed After Stealing Cop Car

One Person Dead After A Police-Involved Shooting

MIAMI – Nadia Guerrier had not idea what had happened to her father Esperance and her stepmother Louise until she arrived at their home Monday afternoon.

"I saw it on the news this morning and I called him like three or four times and he didn't answer," Guerrier told Local 10's John Turchin.

The incident just before 7 a.m. when Esperance Guerrier's cab was t-boned by another vehicle at I-95 and Northwest 81st Street.

Guerrier was killed instantly. Louise, who was also in the cab, was critically injured.

The driver of the car that hit them left the scene on foot. According to investigators, he ran to a nearby hospital for help, then took off when an officer showed up.

Moments later, he jumped into a canal, swam to the other side and confronted a woman who was standing there.

"He was wet. He was soaked," the woman said. "He had on pants, no shoes, no shirt, nothing. He was bleeding."

It was then that the same officer spotted him again. Detectives say there was a confrontation. Shots were fired, the man jumped into the officer's cruiser and took off.

After a short pursuit, he crashed. Once again, gunfire erupted, according to investigators. Police found him dead in the front seat of the cruiser.

When Local 10's John Turchin showed the suspect's friends and family members the shirt police found near the canal, they identified him as 28-year-old Glenn Humes, a former star football player and graduate of Jackson Senior High School.
