According to authorities, Miami Gardens police units were in the area of Northwest 167th Street at 17th Avenue when they heard what appeared to be gunshots. A short time later, police saw a red car leaving the area at a high rate of speed.

The officers attempted to make a traffic stop, but that's when the driver of the red car attempted to ram the police officers, Miami Gardens police said. The driver got on the Palmetto Expressway and went towards Interstate 95.

On I-95, the driver went into Palm Beach County.

Cellphone video showed both unmarked and marked police cars chasing a red Volkswagen Jetta northbound near the Sunrise Boulevard exit shortly before 5 p.m.

A Local 10 News viewer said she saw about 30 police cars pursuing the vehicle.

Miami Gardens police said Brown crashed the stolen car and then bailed out of the vehicle, jumping over the side of the highway near Hypoluxo Road. A police K-9 unit captured Brown as he was hiding in the bushes in front of someone's home.

Jackson was immediately taken into custody. Police said two vehicles were hit by the Jetta during the pursuit.
