Suspicious packages found at Sweetwater mayor's home

Miami-Dade police sends bomb squad to Mayor Orlando Lopez's home

SWEETWATER, Fla. – Police were called to Sweetwater Mayor Orlando Lopez's home Tuesday after receiving reports of two suspicious packages dropped off by UPS.

Sky 10 was above the mayor's home on Southwest 103rd Court and Third Street just before 4:30 p.m. as a couple of police officers stood outside the home.

According to city officials, the UPS driver thought the packages looked odd and noticed that they were addressed to the mayor with the mayor's address as the return address.

A barcode scan showed that the packages actually came from Virginia under a fictitious name, authorities said.

Miami-Dade police told Local 10 News that their bomb squad is assisting the Sweetwater Police Department in the investigation.

It's unclear what was inside the packages.
