FHP: Driver may have medical condition that caused crash

KEY LARGO, Fla. – A sport utility vehicle crashed into a Wendy's fast-food restaurant Tuesday around 3:53 p.m. in the Florida Keys, according to the Monroe County Sheriff's Office.

Sheriff's spokeswoman Becky Herrin said the SUV crashed into the Wendy's near mile marker 99 on U.S. Highway 1 in Key Largo.

An employee who answered the telephone at Wendy's told Local 10 News that two co-workers and a few diners were injured.

Herrin said four people were taken to Mariner's Hospital, but they were expected to recover.

Florida Highway Patrol Trooper Joe Sanchez said the man who was driving the SUV takes medication, but it was unclear if it was a medical issue that may have ultimately caused the wreck.

The SUV had a Wisconsin license plate.

Wendy's remained closed after the crash.
