MARGATE, Fla. – A Margate man was arrested Monday morning after he tried to set his own car on fire, police said.
Margate police Lt. Jon Shaw said officers were called to a Parkside Lane home, where they found John King standing near his car.
Shaw said King ran from police and barricaded himself inside his home. Local 10 News has learned that his wife and baby were inside at the time.
Sky 10 was above the scene as members of the SWAT team converged upon the home with their guns drawn.
About an hour later, King surrendered and was taken into custody.
Police were able to safely rescue King's wife and child.
