Sweetheart swindler steals $14,000 from latest girlfriend, deputies say

BSO: Trevor Thornton, 33, cons women throughout nation

COOPER CITY, Fla. ā€“ A man from South Carolina, who deputies describe as a "criminal casanova," is facing charges after allegedly stealing thousands of dollars from his latest girlfriend.

According to Broward Sheriff's Office detectives, Charmaine Pierrelouis, who lives in Cooper City, had been dating Trevor Thornton, 33, for about two weeks when she discovered he had stolen a safe from her bedroom closet, which contained $14,000 in cash.

Pierrelouis told detectives she met Thornton on the dating site PlentyofFish.com and they had recently taken a weekend vacation together in Puerto Rico. She said a relative there warned her that she had seen Thornton's mugshot online and believed he may be a con artist.

When Pierrelouis returned home she discovered the safe missing.

"He's crazy," Pierrelouie told Local 10 News reporter Andrew Perez. "He's a looney. He's a deceiver. I mean, you name it. He has a lot of issues."

Thornton was taken into custody Wednesday.

Detectives said Thornton has a lengthy criminal history of fraud and theft nationwide, and some women have even posted YouTube videos warning other women about Thornton.

Pierrelouie told Local 10 News that Thornton seemed, "attractive, charming and very smart" when she first met him. She described him as being "everything a woman could dream of" and said he proposed to her after they had dated for only a week.

Detectives said some of the victims include women in Georgia, South Carolina, Virginia and California.

Thornton has served time in Florida state prison from 2003 to 2006 for similar crimes committed in Hillsborough County.

Anyone who believes they may have been a victim of Thornton's is urged to call detectives at 954-435-2200.
